Mild climate, quiet settlements and cultivated space have attracted travel writers and immigrants to this region from the ancient times.
Foreigners, mostly curious travellers, after discovering the natural beauties, greenery and parks of the Bay of Kaštela and also the benefits of this region, have often spent time here since the 18th century. Foreign travel writers in their books state that the region of Kaštela was one of the most beautiful regions on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic Sea.
We record the beginnings of tourism in Dalmatia since the establishing of steamship connection between Trieste and Corfu in 1837. Hotels and boarding houses were full of guest in the 1930s. Domestic and foreign tourist guides presented Kaštela as a well-known tourist destination. Besides Palace Hotel and existing boarding houses, the owners of better equipped houses also started to rent to tourists (among them was this apartment of ours, too). Saltwater bathing-places were constructed in Kaštela and in time they became spas and places of pleasant stay,(locus amoenus), especially during summer and autumn months.
